Before I forget I have a prediction. A prediction based on a commercial I saw earlier today, oddly enough. A Nutri-system commercial featuring a newly slimmed down Marie Osmond. I was staring at her thinking that she looked like someone else, I do this often. I also tend to associate people with animals, but I digress. Anyway, I was thinking to myself as I watched Marie sell the hell out of Nutri-system that a certain Miss Kat Von Dee would probably resemble Marie when she's her age. I mean, she would look similar if you could for the moment imagine Marie Osmond fully tattooed. Voila... and there it is, my prediction for the day. I'm smitten.
As for the meat and potatoes, I had the BEST day today. I haven't had a day this good in a really, really long time. I was starting to categorize good days in a weird way. I sorta considered them mystical and ever elusive like the unicorn or tooth fairy. But, to my surprise today was magically suspicious, and I can't really wrap my mind around "why" it was such a good day. I guess one reason would most definitely have to be because my Medical Terminology teacher is like my soul mate teacher. Does that make any sense? What I mean by that is that I couldn't have created a teacher more perfect. She's quirky and funny and really smart. I think one of the reasons I like her so much is she reminds me of who I used to be. Who I was before I decided to be all stressed out and disgruntled. She told the class that in addition to adhering to our classroom responsibilities we were to also incorporate additional guidelines in our everyday life. She explained that as future health care professionals we would need to develop these traits in order to better care for our patients. The first being to Be happy and enjoy our lives. Simple enough right? She also advised us to get outside of ourselves and to do a good deed everyday. To pick up three pieces of trash a day, and to take pride in our environments. That was it, simple, compassionate but moving... for me anyway. I'm excited to see what else I can pick up from her.
I also ran into a couple of people unexpectedly. A girl that I got to know well last semester in my Anatomy class happened to be in Medical Terminology today. What's funny is that I was in the middle of sitting down next to her when she kicked my chair, I hadn't even noticed her until that moment. Then after class I ran into a really nice girl I went to high school with, which was nostalgic and for some reason made me feel better about being nearly thirty and back in school (strength in numbers I say.) After I got home I went for a walk on the beach with my friend and Mr. Mooneezie (my dog.) It was clear and beautiful and smelled fresh from the rain. Amazing. While pulling from the curb to return home I saw another friend, a very close friend who I had lost contact with. I feel like singing... "... shake 'em up, shake 'em up, shake 'em up, shake 'em. Roll 'em in a circle of homeys and watch me break 'em with the seven, seven eleven, seven eleven, seven even back do' little Joe." Yeah it's pretty much like that.

Microborology
I had my first class of the Spring Session today. Microbiology. I don't know what it is about this class but I was so tired the whole time. Did I mention that the class starts at eight and ends at twelve forty? It seemed like it was one hundred and eighty hours long today. I kept trying to talk to the guy sitting on my left, but he wasn't being very neighborly and I was way too tired to even try and continue a surface conversation. Instead I passed the time fighting the urge to "rest" my eyes, I literally had tears falling down my face at times. In fact during my trip to the ladies room I found that my eyeliner and mascara had teamed up and joined forces to complete the raccoon eye look. In all honesty my left eye was slightly more smokey than my right so I truly looked like a crazed- yawny- faced- weirdo. I'm hoping that next class I'm more alert and excited about the world of microbes. Or maybe at least my lab partner could come up off the entertainment a little instead of being such a prude.
So I watched the movie Definitely, Maybe tonight. I forgot how cute Ryan Reynolds is. Is it just me or is it weird how people can date someone and then marry someone who is nothing like the person they dated? What does that mean? Maybe I'm still deliriously tired (this could be the business) but I was tripping a good portion of the movie about Ryan's previous relationship to Alanis. Weren't they engaged or something? I think I even saw some special on Television with the two of them while they were still dating, and they seemed all happy and in love. Weird how in a twist of fate he ends up with Scarlet Johansen. She doesn't even slightly resemble the woman he had previously committed his love to. Weirdness.

Bottle Rot
Can't a girl have a little fun anymore with her friends and a bottle without things getting out of hand? I remember, vaguely, the days when I could drink myself into oblivion and wrestle or dance or just hang around being loud and abnoxious without waking up the next morning clinging to my chest amidst a panic attack. While this doesn't happen everytime I drink I've noted that it is a consistent occurence. I long for the carefree days... and I wonder what made those days particularly carefree. Was it that back then I didn't care as much, or didn't sweat the small stuff as much, or didn't have as much to lose? Maybe now we all have acquired more emotions and hold them just beneath the surface, only to witness them force their way out when inhibitions have wavered. I'm still confused and not yet convinced. Perhaps alcohol doesn't always facilitate a good time (could this be true?)
Some of my fondest memories are of my younger day, with my friends and of course booze. Most of the time back then we had to be very cunning in our attainment of the brew. I think that the thrill of somehow getting our mucky paws on the "good stuff" was better than actually having it. We would go to any length, lie, manipulate and even cross country lines just to have the chance to party. It's not as exciting anymore because now we just walk into any store and buy what we want... legally. Yawn! But you know, I still have a good time when I'm drinking and hanging out with my friends. Most of the time. As long as tempers don't flare, or communication doesn't get crossed. I don't recall this happening much when I was in my twenties or thereabouts. Back then I think my friends and I were too busy fighting against a bigger cause to fight amoungst ourselves. That's right, we were too busy fighting against the man (Mothers included.) In our youthful days we were preoccupied pulling one over on the parents, or school or work. We were way too busy with all of that to even think about challenging each other.
Perhaps now, as responsible law abiding citizens we need a healthy outlet in which to express our angst. Perhaps now, we need to feel as though we are fighting for something in unity in order to prevent fighting with each other.

Reflecting over relish
It's so weird how you could have a certain perception or assumption about yourself that could be so utterly off. I would have thought, and did think up unitl a few months ago that I would be a great server. I enjoy cooking and food and I have always relished in serving my friends and making sure that they were comfortable at all times when they were visiting my home. I even watch all of the restaurant shows on television, read books about the real happenings inside a kitchen, and play restaurant video games. Nothing could have ever prepared me, however, for the utter piggish, slothy, rude people I would encounter in the diner setting in which I'm am currently employed.
I have on occasion been out to eat with someone who's behavior toward the waitstaff made me uncomfortable and embarrassed. Perhaps they were cheap tippers, or even worse they projected and communicated a short and condescending attitude. I figured that those people were lacking manners and common decency and were the minority. I figured that most people were cordial and polite and treated the server as if they were, gasp... human. I guess in a sense that is the truth. Most people I encounter while slanging greasy burgers and bagged salads are pleasant. The sad thing is for me, all it takes is one impatient or miserable person to ruin the whole bunch.
Sometimes I feel as though I work on a farm, not a restaraunt. Looking after animals and making sure that their troughs are full. Mucking out their stalls when they are done. For this I take responsibilty. I didn't apply for this job, I took the easy way out (or was it) and cashed in on a family hook-up. I figured I would save myself the grief of searching through the classifieds. In the end it may be more trouble than it was worth. The establishment I belong to at the moment isn't known for quality. If it were a celebrity, it would be D-listed and in turn it attracts patrons who are bottom of the barrel (with as I have mentioned before exceptions, but few.)
In a way this job has been stellar for my self esteem. I would like to take a moment of silence to thank the higher power(s) that be for the following: I am thankful that I am not overweight and overwhelmed with my brood of screaming children, I am thankful that I am not married to a rude pig who treats the server as a slave and then makes googly eyes at her (feel free to vomit at any point), I am thankful that I don't own any elastic faux jeans that allow me to make far too many trips to the buffet, I am grateful that my lover doesn't take me out to a grease pit for holidays- birthdays- or anniversaries etc., I am thankful that I am working toward a larger goal and that I will someday soon be respected as a pillar in my community. Most of all I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to meet some of the most amazing people, my fellow servers, who inspire me to practice more patience, and remind me to smile even when I feel like screaming.
